Boys and I visited big grandma today.
Now, it's not just anyone who would take kindly to being called "big" grandma. But, if you know big grandma you understand why she is fine, if not even pleased with it. When Jayla was learning to speak we told her this was her great-grandma. She somehow omitted the "great" and inserted the "big." Not a problem, big grandma it is then.
Everyone should have a "big grandma" in their life. Someone to help them see the type of person they want to become. That's what she has been to me.
At big grandma's the coffee is always hot, the food always delicious, the treats always sweet and the hospitality as warm as can be. Just pull up a chair at the kitchen table and chat. I talk to her about everything under the sun.
She is old fashioned, simple in her lifestyle and desires, and rich in forgiveness and mercy. Faithful in the Scriptures and "rejoices not in iniquity but rejoices in truth." Accepting of those she loves, willing to overlook flaws. Full of wisdom and kindness. She helps me see the kind of wife, mother, friend, and daughter of God I want to be.
Titus 2:4
That they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.
In this day and age, it is not always easy to find a woman who lives this out, let alone one willing to answer to "big grandma."
