Onyx: "Hey mom, I can read this book."
Me: "Uh huh honey, I'm sure you can."
Onyx: "No, really I can, let me show you."
Me: (Jaw dropping ashtonishment as he actually reads it.) "Wow, that's really cool, why don't we try another book?" (Testing to see if it was some sort of fluke.)
Onyx: "Sure."
He read another Bob Book. (These are not the sort of books he would have memorized because we never, ever read them for pleasure. They are too simple.) What?? Can I no longer take credit for their academic achievements before they set foot in an actual classroom? I know I did not teach him this. However, I am going to falsely take credit and coast on this 'accomplishment' for a while....Is dinner ready? No, but Onyx can read. I don't have any clean socks, have you done laundry? No, but did you know Onyx is reading? Did you pay that bill today? Well no, but man can our firstborn son read! Thanks Onyx.
