Bob, completely caught off-guard because it's so unlike me to exaggerate or be dramatic: "Really, why is that? Was it our trip to King Soopers, they did have pineapples on sale for $1 each, that is pretty special. Obviously you were thrilled, you bought 4 of them. Or, was it how we watched Ratatouille again for the second time in 2 days? Maybe it was the fine Mexican cusine I prepared for supper? My cooking skills are well honed due to much practice."
Yes, it is all of the above.
Yesterday was just an ordinary day, a spectacularly ordinary day. We ran errands. We dressed kids. We corrected them. We tidied up the house. Gave baths. Ordinary things. Yet, when I saw my husband caring for our children, and caring for me (even taking orders for breakfast, calling himself a short order cook, oh yes, it's true) I knew without a doubt if I had to chose again, he would be my choice in this life. I realize not everyone can say that and I am deeply grateful. I looked in the faces of each of the kids and stared, how could these beautiful little people be ours? We dropped Jayla off for a night with Nana, and I knew Nana was receiving a priceless treat in one-on-one time with J, because she is a lovely girl and J is lucky to be so well loved by her Nana. I saw Onyx and Tyden in Jayla's pink castle bed playing before they went to sleep, and they made me laugh. Stryder sat on Bob's lap and sucked his thumb and he is becoming a big boy and he is so cute. It was wonderful. Full of ordinary wonder.
Sometimes it's not about the fun-filled days I try to plan. It's not always about being on schedule, or having perfectly well behaved children, or completing the to do list, sometimes it's just about looking at all that I have. All that I really have and wanting just that. All this ordinary-ness is more than I can breathe in. Today I say thank you God. Thank you God, for this extraordinary life with all of it's ordinary moments.
Psalm 118:24
This is the day the LORD has made;We will rejoice and be glad in it.
