I especially like to watch the young people at church. Some of the girls will do sign language along with the worship music. Boys, the size of men, will raise their hands in praise.
I watch and I pray that one day that will be my children. I see my son's faces in theirs. I picture sitting behind Onyx, Tyden and Stryder, the 3 of them wide shouldered and grown, wholeheartedly singing songs of worship. I imagine Jayla and Clover praying fervently, kneeling before the Lord.
Of all the things I focus on as a mother, it all comes down to this. My deepest desire is that they choose to follow after the things of God, to passionately yield their lives to Him, to offer themselves a living sacrifice. I think far too often about doing all the "right" things, the "necessary" activities to help them develop into the type of people their dad and I can be proud to call our sons and daughters. The kind of people that are 'successful.' But the truth is, when it really comes down to it, I only have one request for their lives. I don't so much care what kind of profession they choose, whether or not they marry, the mistakes they make, the victories they claim, the mountains they climb, my heart's longing is that they choose life instead of death, blessing instead of cursing, that they choose to pursue the things of God, to walk humbly with Him, to honor Him with their lives. If they do, no matter what else takes place, they have been wise and I will be proud. The world will not applaud, but they will be most successful in my eyes and I will know I can rest easy in the realization that they are His and He is theirs, that He will guide them, teach them, love them, chasten them, draw them near to Him.
That is this mother's very best dream for her children's lives, for now and eternity.
Deuteronomy 30:19-20 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the LORD your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”
