The calm after the storm.

It has been a quiet, relaxing, weekend around here. No drama. Well, no significant drama. Only mild and moderate drama. And only a little bit at that.
Bob is on call for work, and Jayla is still recovering, so we didn't plan anything.

Friday night the grandparents came over and I was able to go out with the girls for dinner and a movie. Jayla was pretty sick and vomiting quite a bit, so that was worrisome, but I really needed to get out of the house after being cooped up with recovering and sick kids all week. By the time I returned home she was beginning to get better.

Yesterday afternoon, while S&T napped, the big kids and Clover and Bob and I caught a movie that was on tv. It just happened. Unplanned. It was quiet enough to watch tv here. Absolutely Amazing.

This morning, after our big breakfast, the kids played for a while and Bob and I had a long, riveting, grown up, discussion about US history and patriotism.

We've flipped through old photo albums, baked a cheesecake, played outside....

There is time to relax.
There is time to have uninterrupted, adult conversation.
That isn't always the case in our house with our 5 pack. And, you know, high expectations for rest on the weekends can leave this mom highly disappointed!
But this weekend, rest we did.
Sometimes it just happens like this. Sortof out of the blue, things are relatively quiet and easy.

It's important for us to be able to adapt quickly, to go with the flow. Take it all in and enjoy when times are good and just keep moving through the more difficult days.

It has felt a bit like we were in boot camp lately. Even the 'simple' outings like going to church and going swimming and visiting grandma and trips to the store have been had their share of challenge. Regular life has required some serious endurance and patience.

Now it is quiet time and I am going to go play a game with J&O while the little kids sleep.

Thanking God today for rest for the soul, rest for the body, and rest with the family. Here's to a low key weekend and the ability to refuel for the excitement that undoubtedly lies ahead in our gloriously full house.

We live for those moments, don't we? Sounds like a lot of fun at your house.

I love your kitchen table, by the way!
