Aaaah Freak Out

I just checked prices for round trip and one way tickets to and from Ethiopia. Eeeek. Not cheap. Plus, a 2 week stay there, plus visas for both kids, plus child care for JOTSC here, plus the girl's waiver packet to obtain her visa (yes, it costs $550 extra. Nice, isn't it?) + + + little additional expenses that keep cropping up.

It looks like our travel will likely be January or February. That means we have 3-4 months to come up with several thousand more dollars.

No problem :) Beans and rice for breakfast....rice and beans for lunch....

Gotta love the extra charges by USCIS... I could never figure out why for SOME circumstances there is no waivr fee, but for others, there is. We dolled out almost $1000 while at the embassy for the VISA app and waiver fees. Crazy.

Most airlines have an adoption program where you can get the one-way tickets at a reduced rate. We saved about $1500 by doing Bereket and my tickets through Northwest's Adoption program. My ticket was $500 more than it would have been through our local agent, but her's was a $2000 savings, so it was worth it. If you go that route, you only need to buy ONE adult ticket through the program to get the savings on the kids tickets.. just fyi!

OH, another thing, just be thankful you won't be flying during high season (August!!!) when we flew because the cost of tickets is exponentially higher than at other times of the year. We paid $6500 for tickets for 2 adults and 1 child. We would have paid much less had it not been August.
