Homeschooling is like that too. If you peeked into our windows at any given time, it's a total gamble as to what you might discover. Sure, we have a schedule. Of course we do. It's right on our refrigerator.....oh wait....no it's not. Probably got stuck under the couch smeared with peanut butter.
Sidenote: The woman who did our post placement report had the sense of humor to send me an e mail saying she forgot to ask about Meadow and Flint's school progress. Hahahahahaaa! Did I mention how hilarious she is? Ahem. They don't speak English. Comprende?
What they do get, along with all the rest of the kids, is ample opportunity to develop social skills and powerful methods of winning in negotiation in the dog eat dog world they now call home. They sit to read something from the Bible with their family each day (at various times because we lost that blasted schedule). They write their letters on pieces of paper and love the big white board in our kitchen and do puzzles and play with their siblings and watch American Idol voting with a thumbs up or down because everyone shouting their opinion is just way too loud. They dance to crankin praise music and pray on their knees with their mom ANYTIME we NEED it, which can be OFTEN ☺
Jayla and Onyx are about to finish their second grade curriculum and they are doing amazingly well. Their ability to retain information and learn quickly, despite *multiple* interruptions is astonishing. They may not have all the "extras" they would get in school, but they have the benefit of countless extras that can not be found in schools.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that if God calls a family to home education, He will provide plenteous learning opportunities and success is His business as we are faithful. I have no idea how they are doing as well as they are academically. What I do know for sure is learning at home is surprisingly efficient. Some days we get tons of work done, others very little. Flexibility is essential to prevent myself from banging my head against the wall in frustration on those days that feel like a waste. Because they are not. "Learning" takes many forms.
If I sense that He is guiding our family toward another mode of educating them in academics, we will take that route. We have very few hard and fast, unchangeable rules or convictions. Because more than anything else, I want to teach them to go wherever He leads.

your children are so so blessed to call you mom!
Courtney - Likewise. You know what I always say, it's good to be a Cassada kid.
Thank you :)
