So I gave my husband the full, green light go ahead for a, ahem, snip clip surgery when Clover was 4 months old. He did not want to do it unless I was certain. I was *sure* it was the *right* thing to do. What kind of person would I be if I wanted to have more children!? People would shake their heads at me, wag their fingers, talk behind my back about what a disservice I was doing to my young offspring to go on having so many that way.
I would not be able to shave my legs, cut my hair, buy sliced bread, listen to blasting rockin music, watch the Bachelor, have my friend Gin over for a drink while I cook dinner, or wear pants any longer.
I have regretted it ever since. Oh how I have regretted it. Every day. I regret it. Even on my worst days at home. I have such regret. I can't seem to get past it. Unable to disolve the desire for a little one, I know what must be done.
I'm getting a dog. Preferably a small dog. This dog will be my baby. It will sleep in a bassinet and go for walks in the bjorn. ☺ It will accept my insanity whole heartedly and welcome the opportunity to be a perpetual baby the way none of these traitor growing children will.
Any recommendations for breed? I'm thinking JOTSCMF would relish the ability to say shitzu without consequence.

but i have to say...we had a maltese shihtzu mix and it was not a good thing. piddle piddle piddle all over the house. everytime someone made eye contact with her. not fun. chewing everything in sight. yipping yipping all the time. may have been the maltese in her?? i don't know.

I love it! I also am second guessing the "snip snip" procedure. And we're looking at getting a dog!! Unfortunately, we want a big dog, and with big dog comes big expense... so we might have to wait a while...

You just can't go wrong with a golden or lab......except for extreme amounts of hair. I also love, love right now the Aussie sheperd.
We had a miniature dachsund mixed with a beagle (11 pounds) and he was the best dog I've ever known! I would highly recommend one. However, dachsund's--not so much. We loved that he was mixed with something.

I know Chrissy - I don't think rescuing is the way to go at this point! I don't have time for a dog with an unknown background and extreme ISSUES! This will be a from scratch puppy. I have no idea if that means the experience will be better, I can only hope.

Cassie, I remember your dog! Is piddle pee pee? Oh yuck. My baby can NOT piddle. I will specify that up front. Otherwise, she will have to wear diapers...with her bows...and dresses. Which would be fine too.

We had a Shitzu growing up and they make very good babies (I kind of think they are ugly though, but maybe they have a face only a mother can love).They are good for being hypoallergenic, they don't shed. They fit well in a bassinet and a stroller. Pretty good with kids until they get old and crotchety. Good luck with your new bebe.
Shih-tzu is the way to go. I think it was the Maltese in Cassie's dog that caused all the yipping. My parents breed shih-tzus. Maybe I could bring one back for you this summer! :)
You'll have to be a little willing to keep up with the grooming though.
My advice is always the same when it comes to getting a dog. I say phooey on puppies. Sure it is great to get a puppy and smell the puppy breath and go through the chewing stage and the house training stage and gosh who am I kidding. I say contact your local pet adoption, whether it be the humane society or whatever (www.petfinder.com is an awesome resource) and get a dog that needs a loving home that may not get one otherwise. It could even be a pure breed. Often though the shots, spaying/neutering are included in the adoption fee, plus the dog is usually already socialized and potty trained. A win win situation if I do say so myself.
